Mounting & Dimensions

This page covers the physical installation of the Display Screen Player: its size, the supplied mounting brackets and where to put it. The player comes pre-loaded, so mounting and cabling is all the installation it needs. For power and network, see Power & Connectivity.

Quick reference

Size: 174 x 108 x 25.9 mm (W x D x H), plus 3.4 mm with the rubber feet fitted

Weight: 714 g

Mounting: A mounting bracket kit is supplied: two flat brackets that fix under the left and right ends of the player. Mount the player on a wall or other flat surface through the brackets' keyholes, or on a DIN rail with clips on the same brackets (DIN rail not included). Cable-tie mounting is also supported.

Environment: Fanless, rated IP50, operating temperature 0 to 40 °C

These values are for the current model, the ASUS NUC 13 Rugged with Intel Processor N50. Players supplied earlier may differ; see Hardware versions vary.

Mounting brackets

The player comes with a mounting bracket kit: two flat brackets and their screws. You can see both brackets in Figure 2 on the Display Screen Player page. The DIN rail itself isn't included (ASUS datasheet).

Each bracket fixes under one end of the player, left and right, with two screws. The brackets extend past the player, and each has a mounting hole at each end and a keyhole in the middle, so the player can slide onto screws in a wall or other surface (ASUS Integration Guide, pages 17 and 18).

To mount the player on a wall or other flat surface:

  1. Fix one bracket under each end of the player, with two screws each.
  2. Hold the player in position, with its rear ports facing where the cables will come from, and mark where the two keyholes fall.
  3. Fit a screw at each mark, with fixings that suit the surface: for example, wall plugs in masonry, or screws into a stud or backing board in plasterboard. Leave the screw heads standing out from the surface so the keyholes can slide over them.
  4. Slide the player down onto the screws through the keyholes.

DIN rail and cable ties

  • DIN rail: DIN rail clips attach to the same brackets, so the player can clip onto a DIN rail, for example in a comms cabinet. The DIN rail isn't included.
  • Cable ties: the player also supports cable-tie mounting (ASUS Integration Guide, page 19; ASUS User Guide).

Where to mount it

LocationWhen to use it
On the wall behind the TVThe most common installation. The player sits out of sight behind the TV, with a short HDMI run. Leave space between the player and the back of the TV for airflow.
On a nearby wall or surfaceWhen there isn't room behind the TV, or the TV's wall mount leaves no clearance. Keep the HDMI run short.
In a comms cabinet or on a backboardWith other network equipment, on the backboard or a DIN rail, where the cabinet has enough airflow and the HDMI run to the TV is practical.

Whichever location you use, mount the player so you can still reach its ports, and so the TV is visible when you first power the player on: it shows the pairing code you need to add the screen.

Placement guidance

  • Give it airflow. The player is fanless: it cools through its case. Keep its case clear, and don't seal it inside a cabinet or tight against the back of a TV without space around it.
  • Stay within the operating temperature. The player is rated for 0 to 40 °C (ASUS tech specs). Keep it out of direct sun and away from heaters and other hot equipment.
  • Keep it dry. The player is rated IP50: protected against dust, but not against water (ASUS Technical Product Specification). Install it away from showers, pools and spills.
  • Short HDMI run. Mount the player close to the TV. If you must use an HDMI extender or switch, test it before you fix everything in place.
  • Within cable reach. Plan the Ethernet run to your network switch and a power outlet for the supplied adapter before you fix the player. Ethernet is recommended for every screen; see Power & Connectivity.
  • Secure it in public areas. Use the Kensington lock slot on the side of the player with a security cable where the public can reach it.

After installation, check the player's temperature on the screen's Overview tab. Consistently high temperature means it needs more airflow or a cooler location.
